Watch your favorite college team on satellite tv!

I Am Excited About Watching The Florida State Seminoles Take The Field This Season On Satellite TV
Content by Kyle Lowe
I am truly excited about having the opportunity of watching The Florida State Seminoles Football team on satellite TV from this upcoming season. Former head coach Bobby Bowden has given the torch to new head coach Jimbo Fisher. Some felt that it was time for the program to head in a different direction. It has been a long period of time since The Seminoles have been in the national championship picture. Coach Fisher promises to bring back that exciting winning style that The Seminoles have been known for throughout the years.
Many fans are excited about the recent renovations that have taken place at Bobby Bowden Field. Fans enjoy amenities that are extended to them. The school invested a tremendous amount of money in giving the stadium an appearance that is appealing for the new century. It is exciting to witness thousands of loyal fans perform the famous tomahawk chop during the game.
The Seminoles have beautiful outfits. I adore the arrow that is located on each side of the helmet. The garnet and gold are two beautiful colors that help the team stand out from others around the nation. It should turn out to be a spectacular year with all of the new talent that will be taking the field this year.

Buck Showalter, O's begin new story against Angels!

The Baltimore Orioles and new team manager Buck Showalter look to begin a new story here in Baltimore while the Angels just keep fighting for a playoff spot. The O's are coming off 3 consecutive losses to the Kansas City Royals with one of them coming on a walk off 3 run home-run.

The season has been a disappointment with many wondering why bring in a new manager at this point. This is a great move for all parties involved as it gives Buck a chance to examine what he has on and off the field and gives the players a chance to learn what he expects of them. Than going in to the off season Showalter will know what he needs to bring in to Baltimore and what he allready has.

You can watch Buck's first game as manager tonight at 7:05 P.M. on MASN. As Jeremy Guthrie will take on Trevor Bell.

Bell's turn to shine is now after Tejada trade.

The Baltimore Orioles dealt away third baseman Miguel Tejada on thursday for pitching prospect Wynn Pelzer. This move makes way for Josh Bell to be the every day third baseman while also showing the club what he has to offer for the future. Bell is 5 for 19 in 6 games with the O's this year playing sparingly when players needed a day off.

Losing Tejada you lose a player who loves the game and also provides a great passion on and off the field. He is also a great club house guy that can motivate the players around him. Tejada has a chance to go to a club that is in a playoff race and will give him a great chance to win. Though Tejada had this to say "an honor to go to play where they want me. But I'm sad because I've loved being here. I've been here a long time and it's like my home. I love being here with these guys. I'm sad but I know this game is a business."

As a Oriole fan and a fan of the game I wish him and his family the best. Good luck Miguel!

The Buck stops in Baltimore!

The Baltimore Orioles have announced that former manager of the year Buck Showalter as there manager. The O's have the worst record in baseball and are on a verge of breaking the record for most losses in a single season. Buck will take over the team on Tuesday night when the team returns back to Baltimore.

The task is huge for a man that has been manager of the year twice. In 1994 with the Yankees and 2004 with the Rangers. He also managed the Diamondbacks and built the team that ended up winning the World Series the year after being fired.

He has been complimented on his readiness and passion for fundamentals of the game. He has 882 wins compared to 833 loses in his coaching career. The move allows for him to examine the team for the rest of the season to understand what he needs to acquire and what moves need to be made in the off season. He is signed through the 2013 season.

O's drop 4th straight, give ball to Guthrie to end skid!

The Baltimore Orioles have not only lost the last 4 games but they have been out scored 34 to 13 in the losses. The last 2 games have been against the Toronto Blue Jays who they have yet to beat this year. The O's are 0-11 against the Jays this season. They will turn to Jeremy Guthrie to break the streak tonight as he will take on Brad Mills.

Guthrie has pitched solid of late only allowing 3 total runs in his last 2 starts while pitching at least 6 innings and striking out 6 in both starts. Though he only picked up 1 win in the starts with a total of 5 runs of support. Guthrie will look for the red hot Luke Scott to continue his power surge and Nick Markakis add a few more doubles to his total.

O's notes: The O's have a few big trade chips that could help land a few more prospects come the 31st trade deadline. That being said they team will not just trade players away to get rid of them and will look to make trades that will help the club.

Ravens, Cody agree to contract!

The Baltimore Ravens and Terrence Cody can now focus on the upcoming training camp and season. Cody signed a three year deal with the Ravens. With him and Ngata on the front line other teams will have a massive job protecting the quarterback when those two plug the holes for All Pro Linebacker Ray Lewis to get to the quarterback. Look for Mt. Cody to be a massive force in his rookie season.

Ravens notes: Sergio Kindle expected to miss the entire training camp after falling down two flights of steps over the weekend.

Scott continues power surge but O's fall!

The Baltimore Orioles were down by 8 through 5 innings but that didn't stop the team from attempting a comeback as Luke Scott smashed his 5th home-run since returning from the disabled list. The O's also got 2 home-runs off the bat of the young catcher Matt Wieters for his first multi home-run game of his career but that is all the O's would get and would lose to the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5. For Toronto Jose Bautista connected for his 28th home-run of the season while moving his rbi total up to 70 on the season.

The O's starter Brad Bergesen struggled allowing 8 earned runs over 5 innings before handing the ball over to Matt Albers. Albers threw 3 innings allowing 1 earned run out of the bullpen to give the pen a much  needed relief.

O's notes: Jose Bautista played in 16 games for the O's in 2004 going 3 for 11 at the plate.

Guthrie throws tonight against Twins! Could this be a audition for another ball team?

The Baltimore Orioles are at that point on the season where the team has become sellers and will look to trade away players that have some value. That being said the team will not make a trade that doesn't offer them a solid return for the player. Every game seems to be filled with teams in playoff hunts scouting O's players such as Ty Wigginton, Luke Scott, Kevin Millwood, Miguel Tejada & Jeremy Guthrie.

Tonight Jeremy Guthrie will take the mound against the Minnesota Twins with one though on his mind and that is play the game of baseball while not thinking of the trade talks. Guthrie is 3-10 on the season that doesn't match how well he has pitched. His last outing he lasted 6.2 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out 6.

If Guthrie throws another solid outing tonight that could only help the return if the O's decide to move him.

Wigginton, Kranitz, Samuel both get the boot!

The Baltimore Orioles were down by 4 and in the top of the 7th when the Twins batter missed the sign and left the runner left out to dry. The runner retreated to first base where the throw beat him to the bag. Ty Wigginton put the tag down and got the runner but only to see the ump call him safe. Ty jumped up, got in the face of and bumped first base ump Gary Darling while arguing the call at first. Moments later pitching coach Rick Kranitz argued balls and strikes and was tossed by home plate umpire Bill Hohn. Within moments Juan Samuel proceeded to make a pitching coach and he to got in to it with Hohn and he would be tossed also. The fired up Samuel got the crowed fired up before throwing his cap on the field and exiting the field.

Millwood returns, looks to stop Twins

Kevin Millwood gets the start tonight for the Orioles his first since July 5th. After his outing on the 5th Millwood was placed on the 15 day dl. The O's hope Millwood can return to the form he was in the first 11 starts in which he pitched to a 3.89 era. Though he had no wins to show for his efforts. The O's will face Carl Pavano tonight at Camden Yards.

O's notes: Brian Roberts may be activated by the weekend to play for the major league club after rehabbing with the Bowie Baysox. In three games with the Baysox he went 6 for 14 with 2 doubles and 3 rbi's.

O's can't avoid the sweep of Tigers!

The series between the Baltimore Orioles & Detroit Tigers involved a lot of run scoring on both sides but more falling in the Tigers corner. Game 3 was a little different though with the Tigers winning 4-2 in a game which Brad Bergesen allows 4 runs in 6 innings of work but the O's could only get 7 hits with two coming off the bat Adam Jones. Matt Wieters accounted for the 1 rbi with a sac fly in the 9th.

The O's will kick of a 4 game series against the Texas Rangers in Texas tonight. The O's hand the ball to Jeremy Guthrie while Tommy Hunter will get the ball for the Rangers.

O's lose on walk-off bomb of Damon's bat!

The O's got solid pitching from the youngster Jake Arrieta but that was not enough as the bullpen gave up a 4-1 lead than a 5-3 lead which lead to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th Johnny Damon smashed a 2 run bomb off of David Hernandez to lead the Detroit Tigers to victory.

The O's were lead at the plate by Nick Markakis who went 3 for 6 while driving in 3 runs and hitting his 5th home-run of the season. Matt Wieters added a double and a triple while Felix Pie, Julio Lugo, Miguel Tejada and Ty Wigginton each had at least 2 hits a piece. Arrieta went 6.1 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out 4 in the no decision.

Baltimore will look to bounce back tomorrow against Max Scherzer. The O's will try to avoid the sweep before heading to Texas for a 4 game series starting Thursday. The O's put the ball in Brad Bergesen's hand with the hopes of avoiding the sweep.

O's give ball to Arrieta today against Tigers!

The Baltimore Orioles skipper Juan Samuel and the bullpen are hoping Jake Arrieta can cool off the Detroit Tigers bats after a run scoring derby in game one. Which lead to 1 inning pitched for Kevin Millwood and less than 2 innings pitched for Andrew Oliver the starter for the Tigers.

The O's were lead by Jake Fox who went 3 for 5 with 1 home-run and 2 rbi's and Julio Lugo who was 3 for 4 with a rbi triple. Matt Wieters also had a pair of hits and 2 rbi's.

The O's have Jake Arrieta on the mound tonight while the Tigers have Armando Galarraga.

Matusz pitches O's past Sox!

Brian Matusz silenced the bats of the Boston Red Sox on Sunday as he went 7 innings only allowing 2 hits while striking out 8. Thats all the O's needed as they they built a 6-0 lead going in to the bottom of the 9th The Red Sox would manage to get a run off of the O's bullpen but that would be it as the O's would win 6-1 to avoid the sweep.

The O's got 3 hits a piece from Nick Markakis and Cesar Izturis while each had doubles. Markakis added a rbi to go with rbi's off the bats of Jones, Lugo, Wigginton & Moore.

The O's head to Detroit to take on the Tigers today with Kevin Millwood getting the start while the Red Sox head to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays.

O's fall to Red Sox 3-2!

The Baltimore Orioles got the Brad Bergesen outing they have been waiting for since last season. Brad pitched 7 2/3 solid innings. The only mistakes were 2 home-runs allowed to J.D. Drew and allowing a 2 out double to Marco Scutaro in the 8th before being removed for the bullpen to get him out of the inning. That would not happen as Will Ohman would allow a single to Daniel Nava to give Boston a 3-2 lead. Thats all the Sox would need as Papelbon would come in and close out the 9th.

The O's production came from a solo shot of the bat of Nick Markakis and a rbi single from Corey Patterson.

The O's look to Jeremy Guthrie in game 2 while the Red Sox hand the ball over to Jon Lester.

O's bats go from hot to cold over night!

The Baltimore Orioles were red hot on wednesday and ice cold on thursday as the fell to the Oakland A's 8-1. The bats were kept in line by Trevor Cahill and the lone run came on a Nick Markakis sac fly in the first inning. Jake Arrieta went 6 innings allowing 3 earned runs while striking out 2 and would give way to the bullpen that would allow 4 more runs to push the score to 8-1. That would be the final as the O's lose the series to the A's.

Corey Patterson had 2 hits with one being a double and scored the lone run. While Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, Miguel Tejada, Matt Wieters and Josh Bell each added 1 hit a piece.

Up next for the O's is a trip to Fenway Park in Boston to take on the Boston Red Sox. The O's will hand Brad Bergesen the ball against the veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in game 1 tonight!

Jones owned June!

Adam Jones started off the first two months of the season in a downward trend and was on verge of a bad season. That all seemed to change as the month of June and summer came rolling in. Jones rebounded nicely to raise his average to .274 on the season while ending April batting .223 and raised it to .251 in May. The hits keep coming and the average keeps rising.

Jones tied a club record for home-runs in the month of June with 8. Now with 13 on the season and a good candidate to make the all-star team for the second time in a row to be the Orioles representative.

Junes totals for Jones were 32 hits in 100 at-bats while driving in 21 runs and scoring 16 runs. 12 of the 32 hits were extra base hits with 4 doubles and the 8 home-runs. He batted .320 in the month while picking up 4 walks and stealing 2 bases.

Lets hope Jones can ride these numbers through the final game of the season!

Orioles smash 5 home-runs to beat A's!

The Baltimore Orioles showed they have some power and did it all in the same game as the O's ride 5 long balls to victory to avoid back to back loses against the Oakland A's wednesday night! The Orioles got on the scoreboard first putting up 2 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd but Oakland would get 6 off of Kevin Millwood in the 4th to take a 6-3 lead. Thats all the A's would get and the O's would take advantage scoring runs in the bottom of the 4th, 7th and 8th to win 9-6.

The O's were lead by Adam Jones who had 3 hits with 1 double, 1 home-run & 3 rbi's. The team would get 4 more home-runs off the bats of Corey Patterson, Ty Wigginton, Miguel Tejada & Luke Scott to help the team come from behind late to win another ball game.

The O's & A's look to finish a 3 game series tonight at Orioles Park @ Camden Yards. Jake Arrieta will take the mound for the O's looking for win number 3 on the season while Trevor Cahill will get the ball for the A's.

O's sweep Nats back to DC!

The Baltimore Orioles just did not want to quit against the beltway rivals the Nat's over the weekend. The O's would fall behind by 3 after 4 but would fight back and get 3 of there own in the bottom of the 5th. Miguel Tejada would break the tie with a single in the 8th that would score Corey Patterson. That's all Simon and the O's would need as he closed out the 9th for his 9th save of the season.

O's at the plate were lead by Miguel Tejada who went 2 for 4 while picking up a rbi. Adam Jones added a double and a rbi while Scott Moore also had a hit and a rbi. Jeremy Guthrie would finish 6 innings only allowing the 3 runs while the bullpen would come in and close out the final 3 innings. David Hernandez picked up the win getting 2 outs in the 8th while striking out both batters.

Up next for the O's are the Oakland A's while the Nat's head to Atlanta to take on the Braves.

O's do it again after trailing by 5!

The Baltimore Orioles are on a 3 game winning streak after back to back games wins over the Nationals in which they were down by 6 runs and 5 runs today. Baltimore's starter Brad Bergesen went 4 innings while allowing 5 runs before leaving with the team behind 5-1. The next inning the O's would put 4 runs on the board all coming off 4 hits and a single to tie the game at 5. The O's would take the lead in the bottom of the 7th as Washington's relief pitcher threw a wild pitch that let Luke Scott score the go ahead run. Alfredo Simon would work the 9th for his 8 save of the season.

The O's at the plate were lead by Matt Wieters went 3 for 4 with 2 rbi's, Miguel Tejada went 3 for 5 with a rbi, Nick Markakis went 2 for 4 with 1 rbi and Adam Jones added his 7th home-run of the month of June. While the O's bullpen threw another 5 solid innings of relief to allow the Orioles to stay in the game!

The O's will look for the sweep on sunday verse the Washington Nationals!

O's fight back for the walk of Win!

Looked like another losing night in Baltimore as the Orioles would get behind early. The Washington Nationals would get 1 run in the first, 2 in the third and 3 in the fourth all off of young Jake Arrieta but that is all they would get as the bullpen came in and shut the door while the O's hitter found ways to get on base and score. Much of that came from the Nationals who committed 4 errors on the night that lead to 4 unearned runs to cross the plate the biggest one of them coming in the bottom of the 9th. The Nationals attempted to turn a double play that would have ended the inning turned in to being a throwing error by Christian Guzman that would allow Jake Fox to score from second base. This gave the Orioles back to back wins for the first time since they won 3 straight from May 12th to the 14th.

The Orioles as a team picked up another double digits in the hit column with 13. Nick Markakis and Corey Patterson each picked up 3 hits while Scott Moore and Cesar Izturis had 2 hits a piece. Moore pinched hit for Atkins in the 8th and would hit a 2 run home-run that would help the O's come back to even the score at 6.

The Orioles moved there record to 21-52 on the Season.

Jones swinging hot bat!

Adam Jones who's slow start had many fans doubt if he was as good as what people were saying he was. Jones has silenced many over the past week and half as he is 16 for 41 at the plate with 4 home-runs and 9 rbi's over the 10 game stretch while moving his batting average up to .272 on the season. In the 10 game stretch he batted .390 and scored 8 runs. Jones may not be having the season we all wanted he is still improving and is on pace to have a better season than he did last year despite only playing in 119 games due to injuries. Still an improvement and with a club struggling its a bright spot to see one of the bright star playing good ball!

Jones is riding a 5 game hit streak in which all 5 were multi hit games including 3 home-runs over the stretch.

Millwood grabs win number 2, O's put 11 spot on scoreboard!

Kevin Millwood grabbed win number 2 on a outing where the rest of the team had to step-up and put runs on the board. That is exactly what they did as the team scored 11 runs on 17 hits with 2 of them coming off home-runs. Adam Jones & Miguel Tejada lead the charge each had home-runs and picked up multiple hits. Tejada was 4 for 5 with the home-run and 4 runs batted in while Jones was 3 for 5 at the plate with a double, home-run and 2 runs batted in. The team also picked up hits from the other 7 starters with Craig Tatum going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and rbi.

The O's avoided the sweep by the Florida Marlins. Next up for the O's will be the Washington Nationals at Camden Yards starting a 3 game series at home. While the Florida Marlins will take on the San Diego Padres at Sun Life Stadium in Florida.

Maryland's Vasquez goes 28th to Memphis!

Greivis Vasquez went in the first round of the NBA Draft tonight to the Memphis Grizzlies with the 28th overall pick. Vasquez who had a solid senior season averaging 19.6 points per game while grabbing 4.6 rebounds and dishing out 6.3 assists a game. This pick gave the Grizzlies another guard as they drafted guards with the 12th and 25th picks also. Vasquez has to prove he is ready for the NBA as the team has proven young star O.J. Mayo slotted in at the 2 guard position.

The pick was a odd selection for the Grizzlies as they had selected two guards earlier in the draft. The reason could be he was the best player left on the board or they could use one as trade bait eventually. For Vasquez though its a chance to take his game to the next level!

O's fail to land Valentine, search continues!

The Baltimore Orioles entertained the Bobby Valentine but thats all they did as the former Major League Coach told the organization he was not interested in the position. Though he did say he was interested in another manager position with the Florida Marlins. That could come true as reports indicate he will be offered a 4 year contract. Though the Orioles did not make any news of a offer to Valentine they did continue there search as they interviewed Buck Showalter on Wednesday and plan to bring Eric Wedge for a second interview sometime soon. The O's also will give former O's and 1983 World Series MVP Rick Dempsey another interview for the position.

The search will continue till the O's find the right man for the job!

Could the O's use Ryan Shealy?

Tampa Bay released according to MLBTRADERUMORS.COM and you can see the posting by clicking here. Shealy is only 30 years old and has shown power in the minors hitting 10 home-runs in a little over 200 at bats though his average is around .240. The Orioles have gotten little production out of Atkins, Lugo, Izturis and Scott Moore. So why not cut one of these guys and put Shealy at first daily and Wigginton can play second daily.

A Shealy signing is just my opinion.

O's take shortstop Machado!

The Baltimore Orioles used the number 3 pick in the baseball draft to select high school shortstop Manny Machado. This selection gives the organization a chance to develop another great shortstop from the ground up. This young man has been compared by some as the next A-Rod.

The down fall is he is only 17 and is coming out of high school which could mean it could be a few years before he will be a impact on the big league club. That is if the team can come to terms with him. Machado is 6 foot 2. He has committed to college plus add in that his agent is Scott Boras and the likely hood is that the O's fans might not ever get to cheer for him.

Lets hope for the sake of the organization he could be the future shortstop for a long time.

Markakis hits O's to victory!

The Baltimore Orioles can now look for the future and put the ten game skid behind them thanks to Nick Markakis base hit in the 10th to win it for the O's. O's had another solid start from there starting pitching when Brian Matusz went 5 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 7.

Juan Samuel picked up win number 1 as the O's skipper and looks to keep the momentum going.

The O's will kick off a three game series with the New York Yankees on Tuesday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

A glimpse back at the 08-04 first round picks!

The draft is approaching and all talk is around 3 players. Those three players are Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and Jameson Taillon all three expect to be gone within the first 3 picks with Harper going number 1 to the Nationals. The Orioles select third and will choose what ever player out of the other two are left. So I decided to take a look at the first round picks of the O's for the 5 drafts prior to last year as many of the players have not made it to the big leagues from last years draft.

2008 Draft: Brian Matusz
Outlook: Brian Matusz has the making to be a very solid pitcher and has showed in spurts that he can pitch at the major league level. The problem with him is he has been inconsistent in his starts but still has great command. My outlook he will be a top of rotation starter more likely a solid number 2 starter.
Players we could have drafted: Gordon Beckham & Justin Smoak
My Pick: Justin Smoak as the team was looking for a power bat and needed young corner infielder to go along with Nick Markakis, Adam Jones & Matt Wieters. Matusz adds to our pitching depth but either of these picks would have helped round out are infield this year as the O's needed a shortstop and first baseman.
Win Or Loss: Undecided

2007 Draft: Matt Wieters
Outlook: Matt Wieters still has a learning curve in the majors but is a solid catcher who will only get better as the Orioles eventually get better. So far with out the Orioles having that one big bat the young stars over trying to hard to succeed. He will develop into a great star in the coming seasons.
Players we could have drafted: Jason Heyward, Ricky Porcello & Ross Detwiler
My Pick: Matt Wieters would have been my pick also as you can build a team a around a great catcher take a look at the Twins.
Win Or Loss: Undecided

2006 Draft: Bill Rowell & Pedro Beato
Outlook: Bill Rowell has yet to shown he can make it up through the organization and the team has moved in different directions with Josh Bell & Brandon Snyder. Pedro Beato who? As of now we haven't heard much of him.
Players we could have drafted: Tim Lincecum, Ian Kennedy & Max Scherzer
My Pick: Tim Lincecum as the hype surrounding him was much higher than Bill Rowell and if we had the front office we do now that pick might have happened.
Win Or Loss: Loss

2005 Draft: Brandon Snyder & Garrett Olson
Outlook: Brandon Snyder drafted as catcher but after injuries he moved to first base. A solid season last year had high hopes of him joining the big club this season. He could be a solid first baseman but still needs to prove it in the majors. Garrett Olson showed promise in a few starts but after a few season we traded him away.
Players we could have drafted: Cliff Pennington, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza, Colby Rasmus & Joey Devine.
My Pick: Than would have been Snyder but now no sense Matt Garza.
Win Or Loss: Loss at this point

2004 Draft: Wade Townsend
Outlook: Wade had a huge upside as a starter but never developed.
Players we could have drafted: Jered Weaver, Stephen Drew, Phil Hughes, Blake Dewitt
My Pick: Stephen Drew
Win Or Loss: Loss

Though we did get Matt Wieters & Brian Matusz we could have a roster that looked like this:

  1. Brian Roberts 2b-(when he returns)
  2. Stephen Drew SS
  3. Nick Markakis RF
  4. Justin Smoak 1b
  5. Matt Wieters C
  6. Miguel Tejada 3b
  7. Adam Jones CF
  8. Ty Wigginton DH
  9. Felix Pie Lf-(when he returns)
Start Rotation:
  1. Tim Lincecum
  2. Kevin Millwood
  3. Matt Garza
  4. Jeremy Guthrie
  5. Brad Bergesen
Only if drafts went a little different!

Another solid start wasted by lack of offense!

Jeremy Guthrie was in a battle with Jon Lester through the first 6 innings as both pitchers would not allow a run to cross in those innings. The Orioles had a great chance with runners at second and third with 1 out in the 5th inning and Lester got a short pop-up and a ground ball out to get out of it. Guthrie got in trouble in the first but got out of it with out allowing a run. Guthrie gave up a home-run in the 6th inning and would leave after 7.1 innings of solid pitching. The Orioles had another chance in the bottom of the 7th loading the bases with 1 out and could not get a run across the board. The O's would turn to the bullpen for the final 5 outs to finish the game and to keep them in it but that would not be the case. As each of the three relievers would allow a run with Will Ohman giving up 4 runs with out getting a out. The O's would put 2 on the board in the bottom of the 9th but the lead was to far to be reached and would fall 8-2.

The O's will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday as Brian Matusz will throw against John Lackey.

O's Notes: Juan Samuel is 0-2 in first two games as manager and O's have lost 10 straight games.

Friday, June 4, 2010

O's make change, Samuel will get turn!

The Baltimore Orioles in simple words are playing terrible in almost all aspects of the game and with that a manager change was only time coming. I first want to say thanks to Dave Trembley for trying to lead the team to victory and that it took a brave man to try to win with this club. But with that being said now its time for Juan Samuel to take over this ship that's sinking and try to bail the wins out so the club won't hit rock bottom.

The Orioles own the worse record in the Major Leagues with a 15-39 record. The have the third fewest runs scored with 180, 6th worse team average with .245, 2nd to worse in team doubles with 77 and 2nd to worse team on base percentage at .307. These are just a few stats to name that were doing terrible in. So with that being said is Trembley the only one to go? Will the Crow follow behind? Those questions will be asked but for now its back to baseball 101 for these birds with an aggressive and fire leading coach Juan Samuel at the helm!

The only thing that can really happen is we get better.

O's lose another one in Toronto!

The Baltimore Orioles do lead the league in a few things this year but all the wrong ones to lead and with another loss on Sunday all they can do is wonder when will things change. Jeremy Guthrie pitched 7 innings allowing 4 runs while striking out 2 en route to his 5 loss of the season. Guthrie who pitched solid received very little run support verses Ricky Romero who pitched a complete game gem for the Blue Jays. The difference was they got him 6 runs all that he would need.

In the series the O's scored a total of 3 runs and now head to another offensive power team the New York Yankees. The loss was the O's 8th straight at Toronto and 6 straight against the Blue Jays this season. The O's are 2-8 in the last 10 games to put them in the bottom of the league in wins(15), win percentage(.294) and the most games back of first place(19).

The O's head to New York as Brian Matusz will take on Javier Vazquez.

Lady Terps knock off Northwestern to win Championship!

Congrats to the Lady Terps of Maryland as they won the NCAA Lacrosse Championship beating a Northwestern team that had won 5 straight championship. Maryland who was down by 6 goals fought back one goal at a time to win 13-11.

This win gives the Lady Terps 10th Championship!

O's can't get it going against Blue Jays!

Dave Trembley has tried it all to get the team going including a lineup that had Miguel Tejada batting cleanup, Ty Wigginton in the third hole and called up Chris Tillman to start. The musical chairs still resulted in the same outcome, another loss in the L column. Tillman who threw 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs pitched good enough to win but with not enough run support followed by two more home-runs allowed by the bullpen it is hard to pick up the win! The Orioles scored on back to back hits off the bat of Julio Lugo and Nick Markakis in the 6th but that would be all. Give a lot of credit to Brett Cecil who threw 8 solid innings with 7 strike-outs before giving way to the closer.

The O's are riding a 4 game losing streak and are on verge of being swept by Toronto on Sunday. They will be looking to Jeremy Guthrie who has won 3 of his last 4 starts to end the streak. Ricky Romero will stand in the way.

Birds nest left empty as Blue Jays win!

The Baltimore Orioles went north of the border on Friday to take on the Toronto Blue Jays. With the teams ace on the mound they were looking to snap the 3 game losing streak. The only problem was the teams offense never made it to Toronto as the Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum didn't allow a run in 6 innings pitched. The O's did get 3 hits from Miguel Tejada and 2 more from Ty Wigginton but could not manage a hit when they had players in scoring position. As a team they were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Kevin Millwood pitched 6 innings allowing 4 earned runs while striking out 2 and would be on the end of another loss to move his record to 0-5 on the season.

The O's will turn to Chris Tillman on Saturday as he was called up Friday night to make his first start of the season.

Lady Terps Lacrosse is headed to the Championship Game!

The Maryland Terps Ladies Lacrosse team beat Syracuse to advance to the Championship game on Sunday. The Terps were led by senior Caitlyn McFadden who scored 4 goals on her 22nd birthday! The Terps also got 2 goals from Karri Ellen Johnson, Katie Schwarzmann, Sarah Mollison and Laura Merrifield. The Terps would go on to win the game 14-5 to reach the finals for the schools 15th time and the first appearance since 2001!

Lets root on the Lady Terps! Let's GO Terps!

Could Tillman be the answer?

The Baltimore Orioles are riding a three game losing streak heading in to Saturdays afternoon showdown with the Blue Jays. The O's will call on recently promoted Chris Tillman to make the start and try to break the slump. Earlier in the week the O's announced that David Hernandez would head to the bullpen to help out a injured and beat up pen that is need of some help. At that point all signs pointed to the recall of Tillman from Triple A Norfolk and that news happened this evening after the O's were defeated by the Blue Jays. In order make that move the O's optioned Cla Meredith to Norfolk.

Chris Tillman in his past 5 starts has shown he is ready to pitch in the bigs. In those starts he is 3-1 with a 2.32 era. These were the numbers the O's were looking for in spring but they will take them now. Lets just hope he will be the answer!

O's fall to A's in finale, next up the Blue Jays!

The O's could not hold an early lead and fall to the A's in the final of a 3 game series. The O's were up 5-2 after 7 innings but after the first two batters reached base off of Brad Bergesen the skipper Dave Trembley would turn to the bullpen. The bullpen would not hold the lead as Mark Hendrickson would allow Bergesen's two runners to score plus 3 more to give the A's a 7-5 lead. The O's would fail to score in the final two innings and would lose another series!

The O's will head to Canada to take on AL East Rivals the Toronto Blue Jays tonight! Kevin Millwood will be looking for his first win of the season and will take on Shaun Marcum.

Bergesen looks to win series for the Birds!

Brad Bergesen will take the mound in an effort to win the series for the O's against the A's. Bergesen has been solid in some starts and shaky in others so it will take his solid outing for the O's to win. The A's will throw Gio Gonzalez a lefty who has a 3.46 era while coming off his best outing of the season.

The O's need the bats to come alive after a 3 hit performance Wednesday night. The positive note Garrett Atkins connected for his first home-run of the season.

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Nick Markakis swinging hot bat, while hitting in last 8!

Nick Markakis keeps picking up hits while extending his hit streak to 8 following tuesday nights 2-2 night with 2 walks. Markakis is hitting .400 in those 8 games with 12 hits while also adding 9 base on balls. Markakis who connected for his 3rd home-run of the season tuesday night continues to get on base through walks and hits. He is 3rd in the AL with a .417 on base percentage and also 3rd in the AL in walks with 32.

Up next for Markakis is Trevor Cahill who he has 6 plate appearances against with 4 hits in the at bats.

O's find ways to score runs, beat A's 5-1!

The Baltimore Orioles have struggled this season scoring runs but Tuesday was a different pattern. The Orioles scored there first 3 runs with out recording a hit to get it done. The first run came on a throwing error while the second and third runs came on sac flys in the 6th inning. The O's would also get a solo shot off Nick Markakis bat and a rbi double from Matt Wieters to move the score to 5-1. Thats all Guthrie and the bullpen would need to hold of the A's.

A's would lose Dallas Braden left after the fourth due to an ankle injury he has been dealing with. In the 4 innings he allowed only the 1 unearned run while striking out 4 and walking 2.

Up next in the Series tonight is Brian Matusz taking on Trevor Cahill.

O's add 2 arms to pen, put 2 on dl!

The Baltimore Orioles have been bitten by the injury bug this season as two more players went to the list. Koji Uehara and Alfredo Simon both were added to the 15 day dl prior to the start of the series against the A's. In return the O's called up Alberto Castillo and Frank Mata to resume there positions in the bullpen.

This causes a big question mark on who's going to close ball games for the team. Mata was a closer for the Norfolk Tides posting 8 saves to the team. The other options are Cla Meredith or a closer by demand.

The O's did get good news though All-Star Second Basemen Brian Roberts was told he could resume baseball related activities.

Justin Turner claimed by Mets!

Justin Turner who was designated for assignment by the O's was claimed by the New York Mets according to mlbtraderumors.com. Turner who appeared in the majors for the Orioles this year with 9 at bats but not recording a hit while striking out 3 times.

The O's acquired Turner in the trade that sent Ramon Hernandez to the Reds.

O's looking to break 2 game slide tonight against Dallas Braden, A's!

The Baltimore Orioles head back to Oriole Park tonight to take on the Oakland A's after losing the series to the Washington Nationals. The O's have lost back to back games are looking for Jeremy Guthrie to put a win up on the board. Guthrie has allowed only 1 earned run in each of his last two starts. But standing in there way is Dallas Braden a very good lefty who just pitched a perfect game a few starts ago.

The Orioles are hitting .261 against lefties this season with 8 home-runs & 41 rbi's. Nick Markakis is one Oriole killing lefties this season batting .364 against them with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home-run. He also has 20 total hits against them in 55 at bats. Other O's hitters doing well against lefties include Miguel Tejada and Julio Lugo. Lugo though only has 21 at bats verse them but has 8 hits. Tejada is batting .310 against them with 2 home-runs and 3 doubles.

The O's will need solid pitching and deep outings from there starters to win this series. Game 2 Brian Matusz will throw against Tervor Cahill while in game 3 David Hernandez will go against Gio Gonzalez. The birds starters have some work cut out for them as both starters for the A's have pitched solid and have under 4 era's meaning the O's may have trouble putting runs up on the board.

O's lose beltway series on walk-off!

The Baltimore Orioles are miles down the beltway from the Washington Nationals causing this to be a big Rivalry though they may only play each other a few times a season. The O's and Nat's each won a game heading in to the day game on Sunday to see who would win the series. The game most action came in the final two innings in which they O's battle back in the 9th to force it to extra innings after Alfredo Simon pitched a scoreless 9th inning. The O's failed to score in the 10th and Simon headed back to the mound to pitch the 10th but after injuring himself covering first base he would have to leave the game. This forcing the O's to bring in Cla Meredith to try and finish the 10th. That would not be the case as Josh Willingham hit a solo shot off of him and the O's fell to the Nat's 4-3.

The loss moved the O's record to 14-31 while the Nat's moved to there record to 23-22. Both teams have a lot of baseball yet to play.

O's injuries piling up!

The Baltimore Orioles who seem to have nothing going for them this season but injuries. The team has all ready lost all-star second baseman Brian Roberts, closer Mike Gonzalez & Jim Johnson after he was sent down to the minors. Gonzalez & Johnson both struggled this season with a little belief that they could have both been injured causing them not to perform at high levels. The team also recently got Koji Uehara back from the disabled list but after his outing wednesday he has been unable to go causing some to believe he may be on his way back to the dl.

Than there was the latest injury to Alfredo Simon who pitched a scoreless 9th inning today but in the 10th seemed to pull something in his leg trying to get to first to cover on a ground ball. That appeared not only to hurt him but hurt the team as the team had to call on Cla Meredith. Moments later he gave up the game winner on a solo shot off the bat of Josh Willingham.

While the O's are trying to get some wins together these injuries are killing them as a team.

Terps Men lacrosse team beat by Irish!

The Maryland mens lacrosse team just couldn't get it completely done against Notre Dame and ended up losing 7-5. The Terps who finished the season 12-4 got down early and tried to fight back late but the time was not there for a comeback. Entering the tournament the team, coach and fans had high hopes for a national championship. Though it did not happen the fans are still proud and so is the state as they represent Maryland as true champions!

Lady Terps Lacrosse team headed to final four!

The Maryland Ladies Lacrosse team is headed to the final four and will face the lady Orangemen of Syracuse on friday. The Terps defeated the Penn Quakers ladies 15-10 on saturday as Sarah Mollison and Caitlyn McFadden each scored five goals a piece!

O's fall to Nats, will look for series win tomorrow!

The Baltimore Orioles jumped on the board first with a two-run single off the bat of Ty Wigginton in the first inning. The Washington Nationals would respond a few innings later to take the lead. Than the O's would take the lead again on a rare feat a inside the park 2 run homer off the bat of Adam Jones. Than the lead was cut to one but the O's were able to add two more to the board on Wigginton's 13th home-run of the season. That pushed the lead to 6-3 but the Nationals would put 4 on the board in the bottom of the 6th and thats how the game would end as the Nations won 7-6.

The Baltimore Orioles will send Kevin Millwood to the mound in a attempt to win the series for the Birds while the Washington Nations will send John Lannan to battle for them.

Hernandez breaks losing streak, O's win game 1 of beltway battle!

David Hernandez came out ready for that losing streak to come to an end and that is what would happen as he didn't allow a hit through the first 4.2 innings he pitched. That gave the O's the momentum as they would be up 4-0 when the Nationals would get there first hit. The O's would get 2 runs on a Adam Jones home-run that would score Luke Scott, followed by 2 more in the next inning on a 2 run single of the bat of Craig Tatum. The Nat's would put 3 on the board but the O's would add an insurance run on Corey Patterson's base hit in the 8th inning. Alfredo Simon would work the 9th to pick up his 6th save of the season. For Hernandez the win allowed him to snap a 11 straight losses dating back to last year.

The O's and Nat's will take another go at it tomorrow as Brad Bergesen will go up against Craig Stammen.

Bullpen gives up 3, lose to Texas

The O's went to Texas to face the Rangers on Wednesday night with Jeremy Guthrie taking the mound for the O's. In his previous two starts he picked up wins and only allowed 4 earned runs in the two outings. The same would be for Wednesday as he went 6 innings while allowing only 1 run. He left after the 6 innings with only 90 pitches thrown. The O's which may have turned to the bullpen an inning to early which in return would not hold the lead giving up 3 runs over the next 3 innings as the O's would fall to the Rangers 4-3. Cesar Izturis had the big night at the plate driving in all 3 runs while going 3 for 4 at the plate. The O's as a team hurt themselves as the were a combined 4 for 13 with runners in scoring position.

The O's will look to bounce back tonight against Scott Feldman and the Rangers. Brian Matusz will take the mound for the birds. Matusz threw 7 scoreless innings while striking out 6 in his last outing while picking up a no decision. While Feldman has giving up a total of 16 earned runs over his past 3 outings.

Luke Scott's bat has came alive!

Luke Scott was in a major funk and one stat that showed that was his .187 batting average that he had not even two weeks ago. Now after two weeks and ten games the same Luke Scott is batting .259. No thats not going to win you a batting crown or get you voted to a all-star team but sure is better than what it was. In the last 10 games Scott has 15 hits in 37 at bats for a .405 batting average. 6 of the 15 hits have been home-runs with 11 rbi's. If Scott can keep swinging this hot bat the O's might be able to get a few more wins!

Markakis wins it for birds!

The game had the same make up of many of the O's games this year. O's losing with very few runs allowed and even fewer runs scored by them. The only difference is that tonight the O's were tied going in to there last at bat and thats all they would need. Luke Scott homered twice off of last years CY Young Zack Greinke and Corey Patterson tied it up with a solo shot off of Blake Wood. This allowed Millwood from picking up another loss in an outing which he pitched solid and another win squashed for Greinke. The O's would come up in the bottom of the 9th and again load the bases similar to last night. The difference is tonight Nick Markakis singled home the game winner and the O's came back to win 4-3!

O's leave em full, Fall to Royals 4-3!

The Orioles struggled to get runs against the Royals on Monday evening. Though the three runs they did score all came from the speedy leadoff man Corey Patterson. Patterson lead off the game with a drag bunt for a base hit. Than stole second base and was moved over on a fly ball of the bat of Markakis and would score on a infield single of the bat of Miguel Tejada. Patterson did almost the same thing in the 5th as he lead off with a walk, stole second and advanced on the throw as it sailed in to center field. He would score on Ty Wigginton's ground out. Than in the 8th Patterson was hit by a pitch and went first to third on a hit and run that was perfectly executed off the bat of Nick Markakis. He than would score off a ground out off the bat of Ty Wigginton. The O's cut it to 4-3 but that is how it would end as the O's would get a walk, a bunt single a sac bunt and than a intentionally walk to load the bases with one down. Wigginton would strike-out and Tejada didn't get enough of the ball for a hit and grounded out. Bergesen takes the loss and falls to 3-3 on the season.

They look to bounce back tonight with the ball in Kevin Millwood's hand against the always tough Zack Greinke.

O's, Royals kick off 2 game series tonight!

The battle of bad records will kick off a two game series in Camden Yards tonight as the Orioles who host the worse record in baseball will take on the Royals who has the third worse record in baseball. Both teams have had trouble scoring runs compared to the runs they have given up. So lets take a look at the series in a quick glance!

Pitching Match-Ups:
Game 1: Brad Bergesen(3-2) vs Kyle Davies(2-2)

Bergesen has pitched well since being re-called from the Norfolk Tides winning his last 3 decisions while only allowing 5 runs in the 3 starts. His pitch command has improved and showed the same stuff as he did last year when he pitched solid for the Orioles. Davies pitched well in his last outing but the Royals struggled to score for him while the outing before that he was touched up for 9 runs in 4 innings of work. The outcome looks solid for Baltimore in game 1 with Bergesen throwing another solid start.

Game 2: Kevin Millwood(0-4) vs Zack Greinke(1-4)
Millwood has pitched solid for the O's this season with his last outing being the worse start for him on the season giving up 5 earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched. The Orioles have managed to scored 22 runs for him in his 8 starts while he has an era of 3.69. Though it won't get any easier for the O's against Greinke as though his record makes him look a lot worse than he actually has pitched. Zack has gotten the same kinda run support that Millwood has received on the season. This could be a pitchers gem for both teams as both teams struggle to hit. The outcome goes to whoever's team decides to hit for them.  Greinke who was 1-0 against the Orioles last year while Millwood was 0-1 against the Royals though he did pitch solid. As eventually one of the two teams has to score at least 1 run.

Birds at the Plate
Luke Scott and Ty Wigginton have been swinging the bats well for the O's over the last couple of games. Wigginton has hit in the last 7 games with multi hits game in each of the past 4 games. He also added a pair of home-runs saturday to move his team lead up to 12. Wigginton also leads the O's in batting average, runs, rbi's, and ops. Scott who struggled early has started swinging the bat solid of late and raised his batting average to .245 on the season. He has also managed to hit 5 home-runs in his last 10 games. Players needing to get hot Matt Wieters who is 0 for his last 8 at the plate, Tejada 3 for 12 in the Indians series & Markakis 2 for 11 in the Indians series. These are the big three and if the O's wanna start putting wins on the board they need them to hit. Plus they need some numbers from the first base position as Hughes & Atkins went for 1 for 12 with 4 strike-outs verse the Indians.

Royals at the Plate
The Royals have been getting production out of most of the guys at the plate but like the Orioles they have struggled to outscore there opponents. Billy Butler, Mike Aviles, & Jose Guillen all had more than 4 hits in the series against the White Sox. Players struggling Podsednik 3 for 12 out of the lead-off spot, David DeJesus 2 for 10, Mitch Maier 2 for 12 and Yuniesky Betancourt 1 for 10. In order for the Royals to win some games they need Podsednik to get on base as with his speed he can turn base hits and walks in to doubles coming the stolen bases.

O's can't get it done against tribe, lose another series.

The Baltimore Orioles haven't won many series this year but had a chance to win one at home against the Cleveland Indians today but the lack of clutch hits and a solid pitching outing for Jake Westbrook. The lone run came on a Luke Scott home-run in the bottom of the 9th and thats all the O's would get as Westbrook completed the game. The O's started Mark Hendrickson after David Hernandez complained of shoulder pain and though he pitched solid the O's hitters could not put the runs on the board.

The Orioles will look to bounce back in a 2 game series verse the Kansas City Royals starting tomorrow while the Indians will face the Tampa Bay Rays on monday in a game series!

Michael Oher & His Family on Extreme Makeover Home Edition Tonight!

Baltimore Ravens offensive linemen Michael Oher and real family that took him in will be giving back to the community tonight's airing of Extreme Makeover Home Edition on ABC. The families story that took the world by storm with the recently released movie The Blindside that featured the story how the family took in Oher. Now Oher and family will help give any family some hope.

Its great when you see a superstar and a family that all ready gave one man hope step up and give in the community. If the world were filled with people like this it would be a better place!

Hendrickson gets start, Hernandez scratched!

David Hernandez who has a 11 game losing streak will not get the chance to snap that today as he was scratched due to a sore shoulder that he has complained about since his last outing. The O's will turn to spot starter/reliever Mark Hendrickson to pick up the win for a series win against the Indians today.

Hendrickson will throw against Jake Westbrook who is rebounding from Tommy John surgery that kept him out of action all of last season.

Simon, Meredith get rocked, O's fall!

Brian Matusz came out and threw his best outing of the season and showed the O's fan what he has. The only thing is he only pitched 7 innings and that meant the bullpen would have to come in and try and wrap it up for him. The problem is the O's bullpen has had trouble closing out games this season and that was also the case Saturday.  The O's lead 2-0 both runs coming on solo home-runs off the bat of Ty Wigginton going in to the 9th. That coming after the O's used 3 pitchers to get through a scoreless 8th inning. The O's turned to Alfredo Simon to close it out but that wasn't the case as he allowed 4 earned runs. Trembley called for Meredith and the same result 4 earned runs and that 2-0 lead was squashed. The O's wouldn't get any in the 9th and fell to the Indians 8-2. Another solid start ruined by a terrible bullpen outing.

O's will now look to win the series sunday afternoon as Mark Hendrickson will pitch against Jake Westbrook.

Terps Men & Women advance in NCAA Lacrosse tournament!

The state of Maryland produce many power house lacrosse teams in men and for women. The Maryland Terps being a local power house tend to get a lot of those great players to attend the school. This year is no different as the lady Terps are ranked number 1 in the country as the men lacrosse team is ranked number 3 in the country.

Saturday the winning didn't stop for either team as the ladies cruised to victory 20-5 over Marist. The lady Terps were lead by sophomore Karri Ellen Johnson as she scored 5 goals to go along with 9 other girls who scored goals on the day. The men had a little tougher matchup against Hofstra but did pull out the 11-8 win to advance to the next round.

The Lady Terps will face Penn next weekend and the men will find out a little later today who they will face.

O's Prospect Watch: Joey Gathright

O's Prospect watch on Joey Gathright of the Norfolk Tides. Gathright a speedy outfielder who can play all outfield positions takes platoon in center on most nights for the Tides. He's a threat with the speed both in the field and on base as a walk can turn in to a double. After swinging a very hot bat last season and finishing the season batting .329 he could not land on with any major league clubs this off season.

This season numbers for Gathright:

.196 batting average, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 7 rbi's, 14 walks with 10 stolen bases.

This 29 year old outfielder has the abilities to be a lead off hitter as he takes walks, can bunt for hits and proven he can steal bases. The down fall is he doesn't hit for power which hurts his stock. Look for his batting average to rise over the course of the season.

Matusz looking for strong outing, O's looking for 4th straight!

Brian Matusz has all the stuff to be a successful major league starter its just matter of when it will all come together for him. After a rough outing in his last start which he allowed 6 earned runs the most in any of his outings this season he will be looking to bounce back strong against the Indians tonight. Though his record doesn't look great its solid at 2-3 since looking at two games he took losses the team combined to score 1 run. Matusz will be pitching against a struggling team at the plate and should be able to regain form and throw a solid 7 innings. The biggest worries will be the offensive production the O's will give him. Luke Scott and Ty Wigginton each added 3 hits yesterday and both will need to continue to perform to help keep the 3 game win streak alive.

The O's will be looking to extend there winning streak to 4 games and there longest of the season. The Indians will turn to Mitch Talbot to tame the O's.

Friday, May 14, 2010

O's sticks produce 14 hits while scoring 8 runs!

The Orioles have struggled to get run support for most of the starters this season but that wasn't the case tonight as the O's put 2 on the board early. They added 4 more in the 6th followed by 1 in the 7th and 8th to push the lead to 8-1. Thats all the runs Guthrie & Ohman would need to finish the Indians off. The Orioles first 6 hitters produced all the hits as the bottom three were a combined 0 for 11 with 4 walks. Luke Scott, Corey Patterson & Ty Wigginton each had 3 hits. While Tejada knocked in 3 runs going 2 for 4 at the plate. The Orioles have won 3 straight and will be looking to push it to 4 and have there longest winning streak of the season tomorrow against the Indians. Brian Matusz will throw for the Orioles and they will go up against Mitch Talbot for the Indians.

Guthrie pitches gem as O's cruise to victory!

Jeremy Guthrie had all of his stuff working tonight as he only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run through 8 innings of work. While not allowing the opponents to get on base with hits he also only allowed 1 walk. These two factors plus add in his 5 strike-outs and the Indians just couldn't put anything together. This is Guthrie's longest outing of the season and the first 8 inning outing since July 19th of last season. This gives Guthrie his second win on the season and helped lower his era down to 4.13 for the season.

Terp's Alex Schultz makes All-ACC for Softball!

Maryland's senior infielder Alex Schultz helped her own cause in route to being named to the first team all acc team as she was second in the ACC in batting at .401. To go along with the .401 batting average she also hit 8 home-runs, 36 rbi's, 13 doubles and 2 triples. The Lady Terps lost to the Florida Semionals on Friday in the first round of the Acc Tournament.

Congrats to Alex Schultz on being named to the All-ACC First Team!

Luke Scott player of series vs Seattle Mariners!

The Orioles managed to get a series win against the Seattle Mariners. The O's were able to come back in game 3 after Feliz Hernanadez left the game as Corey Patterson hit a solo home-run and Luke Scott a few batters later connected for a grand slam that put the O's up by one. Simon would come on and pick up the save as the O's won back to back games at home.

Luke Scott had the night off on Tuesday but still had a solid series as he was 4 for 8 with 1 double, 2 home-runs and 5 rbi's. Luke's grand slam also help cap a 5 run inning that lead to a comeback win for the team. Given them numbers he is the player of the series!

Other key performances in the series was Corey Patterson 3 for 9 with 1 home-run, 1 double, 2 runs scored and 1 outfield assist. Brad Bergesen pitched 7.2 innings given up 1 run while striking out 3 in route to his 3 straight win. Nick Markakis had 4 hits in 11 at bats in the series while Ty Wigginton added 4 hits in 11 at bats also. While Alfredo Simon picked up back to back saves to put his total on the season to 5.

O's look to Guthrie as Cleveland Indians come to town!

The Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians share the same success this season as both clubs have been on the end of a lot of losses. Between the two clubs they combined to lose 43 games while just winning 24. In all reality thats two clubs playing bad baseball. The O's will look to the former ace of the staff and veteran Jeremy Guthrie to lead them to a third straight victory and tie there season long win streak. Guthrie has a 1-4 record but has pitched 6 plus innings in all 6 of his 7 starts. In those 6 starts he has pitched well enough to pick up a win but lack of runs did not allow that to happen. The team has managed to score him a total of 18 runs in the 6 solid starts with 7 of them coming in his last start which he allowed 3 runs and picked up his first win of the season. Look for another solid start from Guthrie and if the O's can get a few key hits a win at home tonight could happen.

O's fight back late to win series!

The game was moving along with both pitchers cruising along. The O's struck first on a single by Ty Wigginton but Seattle responded back in the next inning putting 3 on the board with 2 of them coming on Ichiro Suzuki's home-run. Seattle added a solo shot in the 6th and 7th innings to move the lead to 5-1 and seemed as Feliz Hernandez would cruise to victory. That didn't happen though as the bullpen gave up a solo shot to Corey Patterson and than added 4 more runs on a grand slam off the bat of Luke Scott. Thats all the O's needed as they called on Simon for his 5th save of the season and helped the O's take the series!

Wigginton helps O's strike first!

King Felix was cruising along till the fourth inning when he walked Nick Markakis. After a wild pitch that moved Nick up to second base Miguel Tejada dribbled a ball back to Felix but managed to move Markakis to third base. Ty Wigginton didn't get much of the ball but enough to find a hole in front of the right fielder for a base hit and a rbi to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Millwood has also cruised along through the first 4 allowing just one hit while striking out 3.

Millwood looking for first win!

Kevin Millwood has pitched like the ace the team has wanted him to the only problem he is still has zero wins to show for it. He has pitched 6 plus innings in 5 of his 7 starts and has allowed 4 earned runs or less in all of his starts so far. That sounds like he should have some wins but a blown save in his first start of the season and lack of runs scored has hurt him. The team has scored a total of 17 runs in the games he has pitched with a few of them coming after he left the game. So the team is averaging 2.43 runs a game while he is has allowed a 3.26 era. Though he continues to do what they have asked and continues to be a leader for the young staff.

Kevin Millwood with his 0-4 record will face Felix Hernandez who is 2-3 and the Seattle Mariners today!

Tides get taste of how good Strasburg really is!

The Norfolk Tides faced one of the most hyped up players maybe in major league history on Wednesday night and that was Stephen Strasburg. They got to see a future all star throw 6 no-hit innings while striking out 7 batters and only walking one batter. The Tides faced Strasburg in his second Triple-A start and managed to almost the same as the first team as he has only allowed 1 hit in 12 innings in 2 starts. This was a test for the Tides as he is as good as many teams 4th or 5th starters and will be pitching in the majors very soon if he keeps throwing this good. Jeff Salazar the lone man to reach base on a walk issued in the first inning and that would be all they would get off of him!

Bergesen wins 3rd straight, Jones adds 3 hits!

Brad Bergesen struggled earlier in the season went down to Norfolk to work on a few things before being called back up a few weeks back. Since the starter is 3-0 has only allowed 5 runs in the 3 starts combined and only 1 in the last two. His sinker was dropping and because of that forced 17 ground balls. He went 7.2 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out 3 and only allowing 2 walks. While Bergesen pitched well the rest of the team swung the bat as the team added 12 hits and 5 runs on the score board to give him some run support. Adam Jones who has been struggling added 3 hits and a rbi while Luke Scott added 2 hits and his 5th home-run of the season.

The O's and Mariners will play the rubber match of the three game series today at 12:35 P.M. as Kevin Millwood will go up against Felix Hernandez.

Norfolk Tides set to face Stephen Strasburg!

The Orioles minor league club will get taste against a soon to be major leaguer Stephen Strasburg tonight as the Tides head to Syracuse. This will be a test for them as Strasburg has a major league arm and is set to join the Nationals in a few weeks. In Strasburg's first Triple A start he went 6 innings while striking out 6 while not allowing a run. Troy Patton will get the call for the Tides. You can watch a replay of the game after the O's game tonight on MASN at 10:30 P.M.

Corey Patterson set to be called up, Reimold might be sent down!

Corey Patterson has been tearing the cover off the ball since being signed by the O's batting .368 in 14 games for the Norfolk Tides. He has 5 doubles and also stolen 3 bases. Patterson who also played for the O's a couple season backs looks to get back to the majors and could be leading off for the big league club tonight as all signs point to him being called up. The O's are struggling as a team and need a proven lead off hitter and someone who can get on base. While one player gets called up someone has to go down and signs point to Reimold as he is struggling and could use the everyday at bats down in Norfolk. If its not Reimold the only other candidate to go down would be Lou Montanez. At the moment these are just rumors but does make sense as the O's hold the worse record in baseball at 9-24 while standing 13 games out of first place.

Terps lacrosse teams looking to advance!

The Terps lacrosse program is at the top of the class as both the men & women are heading in to the NCAA Tournament looking to advance. The mens lacrosse team is a number 3 seed and will take on Hofstra while the ladies are ranked number 1 and will take on Marist while both games are at home. Could the Terps bring home both trophies? Guess time will tell but first lets go out this weekend and win!

Hernandez struggles, O's have tough time against Lee!

The O's and the Mariners entered tonight's game both struggling to hit and both are hitting under .250 as a club. With that fact out there you might think the game would end 0-1 or 1-0 but not the case as O's starter David Hernandez struggled with command while walking 4 to go with giving up 6 hits. The Mariners used the walks to help score 5 runs against him in 5 innings. Hernandez struggled in his last start also giving up 6 runs and 4 walks against the Yankees. Giving him 13 walks in his last 3 games and making it hard to imagine him staying in the rotation much longer if the walks continue. Opposing pitcher Cliff Lee has given up 7 hits to the O's but the O's have only been able to get 1 run off him.

O's flashback on this day!

49 years ago today Jim Gentle smashed two grand slams against the same Minnesota Twins club. The Orioles won that game 13-5 as Gentle also added a sac fly. He ended the day 2 for 3 with 9 rbi's.

Gaither, Gaither & More Gaither!

Yes the Ravens season is a few months away and the more you listen the more you hear the name Jared Gaither. The former Maryland Terps offensive line man & 5th round draft pick has been linked to rumors of a trade out of Baltimore, now he has been swapped tackle spots with Michael Oher & now has a foot injury. Gaither is a tremendous and talented offensive lineman but with the solid play of Michael Oher he has become expandable with multiple teams interested in him. The outlook is that the Ravens will move him as soon as they find out about his foot and cash in when his stock is high since it will be impossible for them to carry to all-pro price tags on the o-line!

Mlb: The Show 10 outcome for game 4 O's vs Twins!

The O's take game 4 on a strong out from Brian Matusz going 7 innings with 8 strike-outs and 2 earned runs allowed before giving the ball to Meredith in the 8th and Simon in the 9th for the save. The O's beat the Twins 5-2 with the runs coming on the long ball off the bats of Wieters, Scott, & Reimold. Atkins and Markakis added 3 hits a piece and thats all the O's needed!

# 3 Mens Terps Lacrosse cruise to victory!

The mens lacrosse team cruised to victory Saturday as they beat Colgate 18-10 with a strong showing from Travis Reed a junior who lead the scoring attack with 7 points off of 5 goals. The mens team look for a solid seed going in to the Mens NCAA Tournament and will find out there opponent tonight! They finished the season with a 11-3 record and have there site on playing at M&T Bank Stadium where the semi's and the finals will be held this year!

Lady Terps Lacrosse crush Dartmouth on Senior Day!

The Lady Terps are ranked number 1 on the season and showed that as they crushed number 12 Dartmouth at College Park on Saturday as they Seniors were able to walk off there home field with another win! Caitlyn McFadden picked up 4 goals and an assist. The lady Terps will find out what spot they earn in the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament today as they own the number rankings in both polls to go along with the number 1 rpi ranking so it should be easy to say they will get a number 1 seed but who will it be against?

O's looking for series win today!

The Orioles are looking to get series win today as they split yesterday with the Twins in a double header. The O's had solid starting pitching in both games but the runs came in game 1 while the team could only put 1 run on the board in game 2. The O's will turn to Brian Matusz as the Twins will look for Nick Blackburn to get them a W. Matusz is looking for win number 3 on the season as he supports 3.93 era in his 6 starts this season. The team needs to get him some run support as in his last two starts the team has combined to score only 1 run as they have been beat 4-1 & 4-0 in them starts.

Notes from the double header:

  • Jeremy Guthrie: 6.2 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 5 strike-outs
  • Nick Markakis: 2 for 4, 3 rbi's, 1 stolen base, 1 walk in game 1, 0-4 in game 2
  • Julio Lugo: 3 for 5, 1 rbi in game 1, 1 for 4 in game 2
  • Kevin Millwood: 7 innings pitched 3 earned runs, 1 run for run support
Lets GO O's!

MLB:The Show 10 outcome for Tonights O's VS Twins Game!

The O's and Twins both come out with great pitching gems from there starters but in the end the O's put together a few key hits and take home the W in a 3-1 ball game. O's starter Jeremy Guthrie throws 8 solid innings allowing 1 earned run while striking 12 out before handing the ball over to the closer. The opposition Scott Baker threw 7.2 innings while allowing only 3 earned runs and striking out 5 in the losing effort.

Orioles 3 - Twins 1
W- Jeremy Guthrie
 L- Scott Baker
 S- Alfredo Simon

This was a video game simulation game and the outcome is not real!

O's noted prospects not doing well down on the farm!

The Orioles had high hopes for a few on this list but its still early and anything could happen in this crazy game we call baseball.

Norfolk Tides:

  • Brandon Snyder: batting .191 with 3 doubles, 1 home-run, 8 rbi's & 26 strike-outs
  • Josh Bell: batting .255 with 6 doubles, 5 home-runs, 16 rbi's & 28 strike-outs
  • Robert Andino: batting .227 with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home-runs, 19 rbi's & 25 strike-outs
  • Troy Patton: 2-3 record with a 6.12 era while giving up 7 home-runs
  • Brandon Erbe: 0-5 record with a 6.66 in his first 5 starts
Bowie Baysox:
  • Brandon Waring: batting .231 with 5 doubles, 5 home-runs, 14 rbi's & 32 strike-outs
  • Chorye Spoone: 1-4 record with a 6.21 era, 19 walks and 4 home-runs allowed
Other notes from around the O's minor league:
  • Matthew Hobgood has a 2-1 record with a 3.90 era in 5 games for the Delmarva Shorebirds. The Orioles 2009 first round pick.
  • Jake Cowan has a 3-0 record with a a 2.50 era in 6 starts this season for the Delmarva Shorebirds. The Orioles 2009 tenth round pick.

O's, Twins Game 2 Preview coming from MLB THE SHOW 10 game played!

After a pitchers gem in game 1 the O's look to bounce back in game 2 verse the Twins friday night as the look to Kevin Millwood. As I played this game on MLB: The Show 10 to get the preview for tonights game. As I play the game on the hardest level for the realest stats and information.

My outcome the O's jump on Liriano early scoring 1 run in the second, 2 in the third and 1 more in the 5th. Thats all Liriano lasted as he completed the 5th for his last inning of work. The Twins would add one in the bottom of the 6th as Izturis commits an error to lead off the inning and he would advance to score on a sac fly of the bat of Jim Thome. O's add 4 more in the top of the 7th and thats all they would need as Millwood completes the game and gain a W as the O's win 8-1. Offensive heros for the O's Ty Wigginton went 3 for 5 with a home-run and 2 rbi's, Nick Markakis added 2 hits and 2 rbi's, Miguel Tejada added 4 hits and 1 rbi, and Noland Reimold added a solo shot to help the O's to victory!

This is a video game based stat line and not a real outcome!

Koji only needs 12 pitches to get out of 8th, first appearance since last season!

The long return to the mound was finally here for Koji Uehara who hasn't pitched in a Major League game since last season arrived. He was called on for the 8th inning of tonights O's vs Twins game which the O's have a 2-0 lead. He used 12 total pitches and 9 of them being strikes to get a scoreless 8th inning under his belt including one strike-out. This is good news for Orioles fans as many have been waiting for his return after showing some promise last season.

Ohman gets big K!

Brad Bergesen cruised through the first 6.2 innings before giving up back to back hits. Thats all Trembley needed as he made his way signaling to his left hand indicated he wanted the lefty. Ohman got the call and was able to get the job done after walking the first batter he faced. The batter standing in his way though with the bases loaded was Jim Thome. Ohman did not back down striking him out to get out of the inning and kept the O's in the lead 2-0.

O's look to bounce back against Twins!

The Baltimore Orioles looked like they were turning things around after a sweep of the Red Sox last weekend but that wasn't the case. As we traveled to New York to face the Yankees with a little momentum that halted quick with 3 straight losses to them. Now the O's look to end the skid and get back in the win column against the Minnesota Twins.

Baltimore Orioles VS Minnesota Twins Series Pitching Match-ups:

  • Game 1 Starters are Brad Bergesen for the Orioles & Carl Pavano for the Twins.
  • Game 2 Starters are Kevin Millwood for the Orioles & Francisco Liriano for the Twins.
  • Game 3 Starters are Jeremy Guthrie for the Orioles & Scott Baker for the Twins.
  • Game 4 Starters are Brian Matusz for the Orioles & Nick Blackburn for the Twins.
The O's will face four starters who all have winning records. Though only two have lower than a 4.00 era with Liriano posting a 1.50 era with a 4-0 record. The other starter is Carl Pavano who has a 3.73 era  and a 3-2 record. Now the O's will be looking for the bats to heat up and produce some runs after a series in which the team only managed to score 7 total runs. If they can win this series they will need timely hitting, production from Luke Scott & Solid starts from Guthrie, Bergesen & Matusz. Two of the three go against starters who have era's above 5.00. My outlook is the O's have another big series from Garrett Atkins in addition to Nolan Reimold as they take the series 3-1. The loss coming in the game when Millwood & Liriano both throw gems.

Garrett Atkins player of series for 5/3-5/5 vs Yankees!

The Orioles lose three straight to the New York Yankees while not much went right for the Orioles in the series. The team combined for 23 hits and 7 runs scored in the three game series. The bulk of the hits coming off of Garrett Atkins as he went 6 for 10 in the series for a .600 batting average with 1 double, 1 walk and 1 run scored. Atkins takes my player of the series award home from this series!

Notes from the Series:

  • Miguel Tejada went 4 for 12 with a double
  • Nolan Reimold went 3 for 7 with 1 double, 1 home-run, 2 rbi's and a run scored
  • Matt Wieters went 3 for 11 with 2 home-runs, 2 rbi's, 1 walk and 2 runs scored
  • The Bullpen pitched 7.1 innings allowed 2 runs scored, 1 earned run, & 4 strike-outs

O's get swept, Kranitz gets tossed!

The O's were coming off one of the biggest surprises of the season as they just completed there own sweep of the Boston Red Sox at home this past weekend couldn't keep the momentum going heading in to the New York. As the Yankees swept Baltimore and pushed there record to 7-21. Things continue to get worse for this club as Adam Jones was a late scratch due to a strained right hip to start it and than Baltimore's pitching coached gets tossed in the second inning. Though its unaware of what caused the ejection it was more than likely arguing a call that came on one of David Hernandez's pitches.

Hernandez only lasted 3.2 innings of work allowing 6 earned runs, 4 walks & 2 home-runs allowed. That was all the Yankees would score the rest of the day as the Orioles bullpen pitched 4.1 scoreless innings. Though the O's did manage a little threat at the end coming off a 2 run homer off the bat of Ty Wigginton in the 8th and solo shots off the bats of Nolan Reimold & Matt Wieters in the 9th but that was it. They fell to the Yankees 7-5. The O's look to bounce back tomorrow against the Minnesota Twins in Minnesota!

Matusz puts himself in hole, O's lose again!

Brian Matusz was cruising along tuesday night before a sac bunt turned in to a much bigger play. Ramiro Pena laid a sac bunt down that Matusz fielded and threw away allowing 1 run to score and the next batter drove in Pena to put the Yankees up 3-1. Matusz pitched one more inning and finished with 6 innings pitched 1 earned run allowed, 3 runs allowed, 3 walks and 2 strike-outs. The Yankees would add another run and win 4-1.

These are the players that are standing out for the early part of the minor league season for the Baby Birds of the Orioles System! Stay tuned for the list of not so hot players in the O's minor league!

Matusz ready to duel with A.J. Burnett!

Brian Matusz will take the mound for the O's tonight in game to of the 3 game series with the Yankees. This is a re-match of the April 29th game as the same two pitchers took the mound that night with A.J. getting the win 4-0 as he was to much for the Orioles hitters. While Matusz pitched well and kept his team in the game, Burnett combined with 1 inning of work from the great Mariano Rivera did not allow any runs. Matusz has a 2-1 record has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 4 of his 5 starts this season. If he stays on course and the O's bats can come alive tonight he can pick up win number 3 on the season. Should be a pitchers duel but with a hitters park who knows what could happen tonight!

O's can't get clutch hit, Win streak over at 3!

The Baltimore Orioles were riding on a huge high after sweeping the Boston Red Sox at home before heading to New York to face the Yankees. In that series it seemed that the O's got the right hit every time they needed it. The same thing did not happen against the Yankees on Monday night as CC Sabathia did not allow Baltimore to get that clutch hit. The Orioles were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and Sabathia tamed the O's in 8 innings pitched only allowing the 1 run before Joba Chamberlain stepped in to record his first save of the season. Guthrie for the O's pitched a well game but with one bad pitch the Yankees were able to put 3 on the board and the O's fell 4-1 to there A.L. East Rivals!

Guthrie looks to bounce back against Yankees!

Jeremy Guthrie looks to bounce back after a rough outing in his last start which also came against the Yankees. His last start was his shortest start of the season as he only last 4.2 innings and got banged around. He gave up 7 runs with 6 earned while walking 1 batter and striking out 4 batters.

Guthrie will come out ready to play tonight and get back on stride as in his first 4 starts he pitched at least 6 innings while only allowed 3 earned runs or less.

My take is Guthrie will throw 6.2 innings tonight while allowing 2 earned runs with 5 strike-outs while picking up his first win of the season. The Orioles win game 1 6-4 and keep there win streak going.

Nick Markakis Star of Series vs Boston 4/30-5-2!

Baltimore Orioles played team baseball all weekend as they swept Boston at home. The series had a bunch of solid performances and some solid pitching from a few starters and the bullpen. The team won 2 of the 3 games in extra innings on big hits from Miguel Tejada on Friday night and Ty Wigginton on Sunday.

Nick Markakis was the big star for the series batting .583 while going 7 for 12 with 1 home-run, 5 rbi's, 1 double, 2 walks and 5 runs scored for the series. Nick has been on fire as of late helping him bring his batting average up above .300 to .313 for the season.

Other solid performances from this series are:
Adam Jone: .500 while going 7-14 with 1 double, 1 rbi, 1 walk and 5 runs scored
Miguel Tejada: .545 while going 6-11 with 1 home-run, 1 double, 1 walk, 3 rbi's and 3 runs scored with 1 walk off hit
Ty Wigginton: .375 while going 3 for 8 with 2 home-runs, 1 double, 2 walks, 3 rbi's and 2 runs scored with 1 walk off hit
Kevin Millwood: 8 innings pitched, 2 earned runs and 4 strike-outs
Will Ohman: 1.2 innings pitched and 4 strike-outs in the series
Cla Meredith: 1.1 innings pitched and 1 strike-out with 1 hold
Alfredo Simon: 2 innings pitched and 3 strike-outs with 1 save
Matt Albers: 2 innings pitched and 1 strike-outs with 2 wins

just a test!

Baltimore sweeps Red Sox out of town!

Baltimore had 2 extra inning wins and swept Boston at Orioles Park @ Camden Yards. Tejada had the game winner friday night and Ty Wigginton won the game today in extra innings today. As the Orioles won there 3rd straight game and have there longest winning streak of the season!

Millwood pitches gem, but leaves with a no decision!

Kevin Millwood throws 8 solid innings while only allowing 2 earned runs. Both runs came via the home-run ball but thats all Boston would get off the veteran. Millwood has been one starter that has inherited some bad luck and the lack of run support in his starts this season. While posting an 0-3 record with a 3.15 earned run average. While the ace of the staff is win-less he did leave with a lead in his first start but the bullpen couldn't save it out as the Rays scored two runs in the ninth to come from behind to win. In his 6 outings he has allowed 14 earned runs & 18 runs total. While his outing have been solid the Orioles have only managed to scored a total of 16 runs in the 6 games. Thats an average of 2.66 runs support. He will get a W eventually!

Jason Santana & #16 Hurricanes beat Terps!

Jason Santana piched 7 strong innings allowing 3 earned runs while striking out 7 while staying around long enough for his team to come back and beat the Terps on Saturday. The Terps were lead byAlfredo Rodriguez who lead the game off with a home-run and Gary Schneider who had 3 hits including his first home-run of the season but the Terps could not put enough runs together to win as they fell 6-4 to the Hurricanes.

#3 Terps Lacrosse lay smack down!

The Terps Lacrosse team smacked around Fairfield on Saturday in a 17-4 rout in College Park. The best part for the Terps was it came on senior day. The Terps were lead by Grant Catalino & Ryan Young who both scored 5 points each to lead the team to victory. Maryland season ends next Saturday as they will prepare for the NCAA Tournament!

Brooms coming out Tomorrow!

The fans will be bringing out the brooms as the Orioles won there first series tonight beating the Red Sox in back to back games. The after noon game has Kevin Millwood on the mound for the Orioles verse Josh Beckett for the Red Sox. Millwood is 0-3 with very little run support in all his starts as he has a 3.38 era through his first 5 starts. In his starts the Orioles have scored a combine 13 runs while he has only allowed 12 earned runs in them starts.

Orioles & Red Sox put on power show!

The fans at Orioles Park @ Camden Yards not only got there early to see batting practice but they got to see a home run derby contest during tonights game as the two teams combined for 9 long balls including 2 off the bats of Ty Wigginton of the Orioles & 2 off the bat of David Ortiz of the Red Sox. The Orioles only had 19 home-runs in the teams first 23 games added 5 tonight. Wigginton leads the team with 8 home-runs and have showed that he needs to be in the line-up night in and night out!
